Got a Hotrock

Yesterday went downtown to what used to be Bargain Basement Bikes, just off 6th. It isn't called that anymore. Now it is RC Bicycles. They had a used Specialized Hotrock 24" out front. Riley took it for a ride around the parking lot. It is aluminum, didn't feel too heavy, and has a threadless headset (important if I want to swap the stem and handlebars). I paid $150 for it. I think it was worth it, especially since I was ready to go down to the Trek dealer and drop $319 on a MT220.
Riley and I went for a 4.5 mile ride together today. After we got back I started looking at what I'm going to do to it. It weighs in at 28 lbs, so to lighten it up I'm going to get rid of the kickstand, the knobby tires (put on some 1.5" slicks), the chain tensioners and some of the chain. I'm going to also swap out the front fork for a rigid one (suspensions eat power). It doesn't currently have a bottle cage mounted, so I'm going to put on one of my old tacx cages. We will see where that gets us.
